Gijs Kreutzkamp graduated in Comic Design in 2020 at ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in the city of Zwolle (the Netherlands) where he now lives and works as a comic artis and illustrator. From a young age he was fascinated by (adventure)novels, westerns and history, especially the so called Golden Age of Piracy. The suspense, sensation, exotic locations and colourful figures which are linked to these fascinations still inspire him every day. His sources of inspiration are both numerable as well as diverse, including the classic adventure movies from the ’30-‘50s and the spaghetti westerns by Leone and Corbucci; books by Robert Louis Stevenson, Joseph Conrad, Jack London, Charles Portis, James Carlos Blake and Patrick de Witt; and the works by Hugo Pratt, Morris, René Goscinny, Albert Uderzo, Jijé, Hubbinon, Charlier, Will Eisner, Christophe Blain, Lucy Bellwood and Kevin Cannon. Gijs utilizes analogue, digital and hybrid techniques for his work. To further his artistic development he intends to visit the desert of Almería and the legendary Monument Valley. Besides that he wants to cruise the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the Bahamas per sailing ship. Gijs hopes to give something back with his work to the medium of comics, which to this day continues to play such an important role in his life.
